Taman Sari Sumur Gumuling Water Castle in Yogyakarta in Java Indonesia in Southeast Asia Far East
This underground Islamic mosque in this great Muslim nation was one of the most beautiful religious places I have ever visited and the serenity and stillness of the area is one of its most special characteristics particularly here where the steps connect in the underground area of the well. This is a special place of thought and meditation in serenity and here is a detail of the ancient structure showing the old stone steps down which many pilgrims have walked for centuries and it is bathed in a chiaroscuro light bringing out its beautiful geometry and geometric shapes.
During the 18th century the Sultanate of Yogyakarta began work on Taman Sari Sumur Gumuling Water Complex and it is comprised of lavish gardens with water pools and it also featured a mysterious man made sea that connected underneath the ground in a system of tunnels. The name Taman Sari is in the Javanese language and Taman means Garden and Sari means Beautiful. Beautiful Garden
